Official Rules

  • Gather a party of (4) hunters in a Tavern.

  • Assign (1) hunter the job of MONSTER PROTECTOR. The objective of the PROTECTOR is to keep the MONSTER being hunted ALIVE for as long as possible.

  • The (3) remaining hunters are the MONSTER ATTACKERS. The objective of the ATTACKERS is to SLAY or CAPTURE the MONSTER being hunted as quickly as possible.

  • A game consists of (4) ROUNDS. A ROUND begins when all (4) hunters set off on the hunt and ends when one of the following occurs: 
  • The ATTACKERS SLAY or CAPTURE the MONSTER
  • The group of ATTACKERS FAINT (3) times.
  • The PROTECTOR FAINTS (1) time.
  • TIME runs out.

  • A new PROTECTOR will be chosen for each ROUND until all (4) hunters have been a PROTECTOR.

  • The PROTECTOR that has kept their MONSTER alive the longest / made the ATTACKERS FAINT the fastest WINS!

Class Rules & Restrictions

PROTECTOR
  • A PROTECTOR is allowed to bring ANY ARMOR and MELEE WEAPON they wish. (GUNNER RULES PENDING)

  • A PROTECTOR is allowed to EAT before the hunt. (no restrictions)

  • A PROTECTOR can bring ANY ITEMS with them on the hunt they wish EXCEPT for a FARCASTER.

  • A PROTECTOR can use (or discard) anything they find in the camp SUPPLY CHEST during the hunt.

  • If the PROTECTOR FAINTS, the ROUND is over.

ATTACKER
  • An ATTACKER must REMOVE ALL ARMOR EXCEPT for any HELM they wish to bring.

  • An ATTACKER is allowed to bring ANY MELEE WEAPON they wish. (GUNNER RULES PENDING)

  • An ATTACKER is allowed to EAT before the hunt. (no restrictions)

  • The only ITEMS an ATTACKER is allowed to bring with them on the hunt are as follows:
  • (5) POTIONS
  • (1) TRAP TOOL
  • (1) TRANQ BOMB
  • (1) WHETSTONE
  • (1) EXCITESHROOM
  • (5) COOL DRINKS / (5) HOT DRINKS (if needed)
  • (5) BUG NETS
  • ARMOR CHARM
  • ARMOR TALON
  • HEALING HORN
  • BBQ SPIT (single)

  • An ATTACKER can use anything they SCAVENGE or CARVE while on the hunt. (COMBINING is allowed)

  • An ATTACKER can use anything they find in the camp SUPPLY CHEST during the hunt.
  • If the group of ATTACKERS FAINTS (3) times, the PROTECTOR wins the ROUND. 


Gameplay Overview & Tactics
Playing as a PROTECTOR
As a PROTECTOR, you want to keep the ATTACKERS away from your MONSTER! The longer you keep your MONSTER alive, the better. This means you'll have to attack the ATTACKERS with every move in your arsenal: Hammer pounds, Lance charges, Spirit Combos and lots and lots of Upswings! Remember to bring the weakest WEAPON you have as to not do too much damage to your MONSTER!

In addition to pummeling the ATTACKERS as much as possible, you must use ITEMS to your advantage! Some ideas for using ITEMS to keep your MONSTER alive:
  • Take a RAW MEAT with you to feed your MONSTER if it starts to drool.

  • Throw a SMOKE BOMB around your MONSTER to hinder the vision of the ATTACKERS.

  • Hit the ATTACKERS with FLEVINE BOMBS if there happen to be FELYNES around.

  • FLASH BOMB to burn the real-world eyes of the ATTACKERS.

  • PING to annoy the ATTACKERS.

  • Use DUNG BOMBS to relocate your MONSTER.

  • Use a HUNTING HORN to call your MONSTER to another area.

  • Use BARREL BOMBS to injure the ATTACKERS. (be careful not to injure your MONSTER)

  • Use TRAPS strategically to lure ATTACKERS into your attacks.

Playing as an ATTACKER
As an ATTACKER, you want to see the PROTECTOR'S MONSTER dead or captured as quickly as possible. But beware as your HEALTH and STAMINA are limited, so not getting hit is going to be a pretty high priority! Getting to the SUPPLY CHEST before the PROTECTOR does is crucial, as they will most likely discard all of your items if given the chance. If this happens, SCAVENGING will become important, and remember, there are no restrictions on COMBINING what little you have when on the hunt.
